JDI and the National Dialogue on Sexual and Domestic Violence

ATASK is a proud member of Jane Doe Inc. (JDI), the MA Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence. As a coalition, we aim to support the safety, human rights, and dignity of victims and survivors everywhere. Jane Does works tirelessly to inform the community on social issues that affect survivors, and we would like to share a letter from JDI’s Executive Director, Debra Robbin.

Dear Friend,

JDI could be commenting every day – if not every hour – on yet another story regarding sexual and domestic violence, firearms, and toxic masculinity. The revelations surrounding former White House Aide Rob Porter’s history of domestic violence and stories of sexual harassment of female employees by gambling mogul Steve Wynn continue to fill the airwaves. More information has come out that the young man, Nikolas Cruz, who has been charged in yesterday’s tragic mass shooting in Florida, had a history of violence in a dating relationship.

As we and our members organize and educate during Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month and get ready to launch the 2018 White Ribbon Day Campaign, we are keenly aware how much work needs to be done.

JDI was asked to comment on some of these stories. Here are two recent articles and one radio show where we contributed both an analysis of the root causes of violence and a vision for what it will take to make a difference.
A National ‘Teach-in’ on gender-based violence – a call for conversation and accountability by Stephanie Ebbert
Trump relates to Porter, because he, too, has been victimized by women spreading vile lies – a satire by Yvonne Abraham
Every Home Should be a Safe Home – a radio show with Cindy Stumpo, “Tough as Nails” on WBZ 1030 and iHeartRadio.
Please share these articles with your friends and colleagues. Let us know what’s on your mind. Domestic and sexual violence flourish in silence. Only our actions will make our words come to life. Get involved. Take a stand.

For peace and justice,

Debra J. Robbin, Ed.M.
Executive Director

ATASK Co-ED Joins JDI Board

Congratulations to Dawn Sauma, ATASK’s Co-Executive Director, who has recently joined Jane Doe Inc.’s Board of Directors! Dawn has worked in social services for 25 years as a service provider, educator, manager, and administrator within the mental health, school, judicial, and academic systems. The majority of her work has been with underserved Asian communities in various settings and service delivery systems. She is excited to be on the JDI Board representing the Pan-Asian community.
